Hike Up Diamondhead Crater

No, it's not exactly revisiting Mt. Fuji, (which the legend goes 'everyone should climb Mt. Fuji once, but only a fool will do it again' to paraphrase). I have vowed not to repeat the Mt. Fuji expedition. But this was the biggest climb I have had in quite some time. And I have the certificate of proof. As told in the brochure: From the crater floor to the summit of Diamond Head on Mount Leahi is a rise of 560 feet. It is achieved over a .8 mile long trail which is unpaved and has an uneven rock and dirt surface. It is loose and slippery in places. There is a steep stairway of 74 concrete steps which leads to the first tunnel. The tunnel is lighted and is 225 feet long. The second stairway is a very short distance away and consists of 99 steep steps. Another short passage and there stands yet another 98 steps up a narrow spiral staircase inside an unlit bunker. The reward for this strenuous hike, is an incredible panoramic view of south Oahu from Koko Head to Barbers Point. It takes about an hour and a half and is surely worth the effort. Easily said when I am safely down and full of Advil and Gatorade. ~~~~~~~~
Gorgeous sights and my last big expedition before leaving the Island of Oahu and heading back to La Paz. It's certainly been a wonderful experience. Wish you all could have been here!
